The Orphan
After the tragic miscarriage of their third child, Kate and John Coleman decide they are finally ready to add a new addition to their family. After overcoming obstacles such as Kate’s alcohol addiction and John cheating on Kate, they come to find they have love in their heart to a adopt child. Visiting a local children’s home, they find they are drawn to the awfully delightful Esther. With her tragic past of her last family dying in a house fire, the Coleman’s feel she’d be the missing piece to their broken family, and take her home with the hope that she’ll bring the love and joy to their household that their now dead baby Jessica would have brought, but with Esther… that’s the last thing she brings home.
At just over two hours it’s probably too long for a horror movie and definitely too long for a mediocre one. The only positive side to that length of film is that it gives the audience more time explore the characters in depth, in a way that most films are unable to afford. With it’s gripping twists and hair raising plot Orphan is sure to exceed your expectations, this film deserves an 8.5/10.
